Full Moon Kids Clinic

Full Moon Kids Clinic

A monthly clinic just for kids!

Needle free treatments that improve immunity, sleep and digestion.
1st child $20/ 2nd child $10/ Family max at $30 regardless of number of children

Shonishin is one of my favorite things to do when treating children.  They love it! My own kids beg me for it.  It not only makes them feel good but it works!  Shonishin translates as "little needle".  It was developed in Japan 2000 years ago, adapted from the Chinese Acupuncture theories.

In Japan, preventative care for children is utilized by having Shonishin Clinics for children once a month.  These clinics are held on the week of the full moon and are called Full Moon Kids Clinics.  We are excited to bring this model of preventative care to you!  Little Owl Medicine and Portland Pediatric Acupuncture are joining forces to bring you an amazingly helpful and wonderfully fun drop in clinic every month.  To maximize our ability to reach more families we are alternating clinic sites each month.  Portland Pediatric Acupuncture is on the west side of the river and is kicking off our inaugural clinic, October 21st, 2018.

These clinics are $20 for the 1st child/ $10 for the second child/$30 max per family regardless of number of children.

Hooray! You do not need to schedule a treatment time.  Drop in between 12:00-4:00 pm. We are choosing a drop in clinic model to allow families flexibility in timing.  This may mean that you will have to wait a few minutes, but our clinics are kid friendly and this also gives families a chance to meet each other growing their community of support.

During this clinic your child (or children) will receive a Shonishin treatment for overall health and wellness. Treatments generally take about 15 minutes.  Receiving twelve of these treatments a year can help to increase immunity (fewer sick days!), support digestive health, promote restful sleep and support emotional health.  When treatment is consistent, problems that may arise along the way are seen and treatment can be adjusted for those issues.  If a bigger issue has come up in between the treatments, a discussion can be had about scheduling treatments to address that particular problem.

We are excited to be able to offer this model of preventative care to our families and cannot wait to see you there. Please contact us with any questions and feel free to pass this information on to friends and family!

The First 7 Days: Infant Feeding

Family Bonding Series (Part 3)

The First 7 Days: Infant Feeding
with Ashley Treadwell & Brave Birth Doulas

In this section of our Family Bonding Series, you’ll learn:

  • What to expect in the first seven days after birth

  • How to get breast/chest-feeding off to a good start

  • How to know if your baby is getting enough

  • When and how your milk will come in

  • Positioning for feeding

  • When to seek additional support

Curious about bottle feeding? Some families decide that breast/chest-feeding isn’t for them for one reason or another. We’d love to offer support around what it looks like to supplement with formula, dry up supply, etc. Please contact Ashley Treadwell at Cascadia Lactation for a feeding consult.

Ashley Treadwell is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and is skilled in assessing your baby for tethered oral tissue ("tongue and lip tie"), helping babies transition from bottle to breast/chest, pre-mature infants, low milk supply, painful breast/chest-feeding, and anxiety and insecurity surrounding breast/chest-feeding challenges.

The cost for this class is $25. It is open to Brave Birth families as well as the community. If you have hired a Brave Birth Doula for support you are entitled to two complimentary classes in this series. Payment is due with check/cash to the instructor the evening of the class.

Yoga, pregnancy and birth weave together so beautifully! The Brave Birth prenatal yoga classes allow space to embrace the mental, emotional and physical changes that accompany pregnancy. Classes will include time to connect with other pregnant people, effective core strengthening to support the changing pregnant body, postures that can aid in optimal fetal positioning and will conclude with restorative poses for deep rest.  The skills learned from one's practice can be invaluable during labor and for the journey ahead. This class is for all levels of yoga experience.

Becoming US after Baby with BB Suarez

The Becoming Us AFTER Baby series has been specifically designed to address the challenges that new parents are already facing as they’ve been thrust into parenthood with less than ideal preparation and support. They’re wanting to do more than just survive parenthood, they want to build a family that thrives.

In these classes you’ll discover… how to manage the unexpected, ways to support your whole family as you move through this huge life transformation, routines that will support you, your partner and your growing baby’s health and well-being, how to better adjust to your new normal, how to baby-proof your relationship, do conflict well, and connect and reconnect through your life-long parenting journey!

You may have taken childbirth and breastfeeding classes to prepare for your baby — but have you prepared your relationship for this transition from couple to family?

Barb Buckner Suárez is one of the first Health Educators in the world to be offering these group classes! She’s been teaching them as a pilot program through Legacy Health System since April 2017, and now she’s also stepping into the community in order to increase the availability and awareness of this most important work.

Click on any of the dates below to register for either the BEFORE or AFTER baby classes. Please note: the BEFORE classes are intended for those parents who are either expecting a baby, or are in the process of becoming parents for the first time. The AFTER classes are intended for those couples already parenting. I have had brand new parents as well as parents of toddlers attending these AFTER classes. Quiet babes in arms are welcome to attend.

I look forward to working with you! (Cost of the class includes a copy of the book, Becoming Us, and all other class materials.)

FOR REGISTRATION

Cost is $195 for community families and $175 for Brave Birth familiies
